Bob Dylan has called modern methods of recording and distributing music “atrocious.” (HT to Wyman at BHT) This is an odd statement, to say the least. My Dylan CDs definitely sound better than my Dylan tapes. I’m not sure what he’s getting at here.
I’ll bet you anything he’s walked himself right into being the brunt of a few jokes. “The static’s not on the CD, Bob, it’s in your voice.”  But then again, Dylan is a musical genius, so I’d like to hear exactly what in the world he’s talking about in a bit more detail.
Sadly, I’ll be missing his concert here in Rochester a week from tomorrow. $55/ticket is a bit too steep at the moment.

It’s amazing what they can sell once we become nostalgic!

I imagine what Dylan is saying that analog is a better recording medium than digital for getting the essence of music. Digital chops up the sound and there are ‘golden ear’ types that can tell the difference. My own experience is that my vinyl usually sounds better than the CD re-release but I’m fortunate to have a really nice turntable and phono amp. Plus, I think a lot of engineers get lazy with digital and mic placement, etc. Just my .o3 worth (adjusted for inflation).
