I figured I’d kick off the new blog by saying something mysterious and existential and postmodern-sounding about the name change, since that would be cool, or something like that.
“restless” - not meaning, “I don’t get enough rest,” though that’s sometimes true and bound to be even truer when our daughter is born in July. “restless” as in kind of agitated and unsettled, which is how I feel as a Christian in the midst of American Christianity. It’s also kind of a link to the old blog’s name. (Oh, and also, there’s this really great Gordon Lightfoot song called “Restless”).
“reformer” - I wanted to do something with the term “paleo-orthodox,” but it doesn’t really roll off the tongue in the same way, does it? “perturbed paleo-orthodox.” See? Doesn’t really work. So “reformer” sums it up, because really, what the reformers wanted was a return to the classical theology of the Early Church Fathers (though perhaps it can be argued they got that messed up in some places, too). I guess the real idea behind using the word is to link myself with the reformational slogan semper reformanda.
So welcome. Everything from the old Typepad blog is here, and all future blogging will take place here, though A Resting Place will remain up for another month, just so you can all update your links, bloglines, and blogrolls.
